Buyer's Guide: Choosing the Perfect Gaming Chair
This is vital to desktop gamers who devote a lot of time to gaming and can benefit from critical features, such as added lumbar support and wider ranges of armrest adjustments.
You can benefit from customizing your chair’s physical configuration to suit the proportions of your body, via the adaptive devices of the chair. You cannot err too much with a plethora of adjustments at your fingers, so long as these are durable and work together smartly. Hardcore gamers spend several hundred Dollars on stylish models that feature every ergonomic innovation and perform with hardly few if any compromises.
The following are worth specifying:
- Elevation adjustment: A standard feature of any good PC or racer chair.
- Height-adjustable armrests: Not every chair has this but it is worth it. Armrests that can level with your elbow will reduce strain on your shoulders and arms.
- Tilt/Tensioning scheme: Fine-tunes the amount of stiffness in the backrest’s tilt mechanism, letting you recline more gracefully as you lean backward.
- Backrest angle latch: Locks down the seat’s angle at your preferred position, so that you will not need to alter your stance continually.
- Seat rails: Enables the seat pan to slide forward or backward in natural harmony with a tilting backrest, for enhanced comfort and flexibility.
Synthetic leather has the same look as leather from far away but is actually made from a synthetic plastic. The material is easy to clean and as long as you catch the spills quickly, you won't have any staining.
It can rip and tear just like standard leather so make sure to take care of it and it will take care of you. They can also be a tad hot in the sun so make sure to find a model that has breathable holes or perforations to keep you cool while you game.
The less expensive chairs are going to be made from a cloth or felt material. Cloth and spills don't play well together so make sure you keep them clean. I don't recommend cloth and always look for synthetic leather or mesh in my chairs.
Weaving and Mesh
Most of the top office chairs have mesh or weaving as their material. It is very breathable and molds to the shape of the person sitting in them. While synthetic leather chairs need molded foam to give support, the mesh chairs use tension and gravity to find the best ergonomic balance. If you are looking to get an office chair, I recommend getting one with mesh.
One step up from fixed-position, the height adjustable armrests allow you to position the rests in the z-axis. In most cases, this is good enough for most people unless the chair is a little too small or wide for you. In that case, you need to go with 4D Adjustable armrest.
No, they don't allow you to travel through time, but the 4D adjustable arm rests (available for most higher-end brands) give you the x, y, and z-axis adjustments as well as the ability to tilt the arm rest at an angle. If you have the budget, you won't be disappointed by buying a chair that gives you the most amount of flexibility.
For those of you who do not know, casters and wheels are the ones you usually find on office or gaming seats that allow you to move freely without having to stand up and push the chair.
Now, the default casters and wheels found in office and gaming seats are good enough, but some of them might scratch your floors.
Luckily, there are caster and wheel replacements out on the market that will eliminate floor scratching and will also eliminate the chair from moving too much.
Although they are optional, I recommend buying replacement caster and wheels if the default ones’ scratch or damage your floors.
You get what you pay for and a lot of the discount you get from budget chair manufacturers comes through in the form of limited warranties, cheap materials, and unavailable customer support.
How long is the warranty? What does it cover? How do you get a replacement? Make sure you understand the answer to these questions before you shell out the money on your new chair.
